About Ginny Wilson
Ginny received her AA degrees in Fashion and General Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After pursuing her carfeer as a free-lance fashion artist and illustrator in Manhattan, she soon discovered that her real longing was in the realm of fine art, and she decided to study Waterolor at the Art Students League in New York.

As a little girl Ginny had always known she wanted to be an artist. She studied library books of her favorite artists including Turner and Monet and one in particular, a book on floral watercolors by Mario Cooper. She adored his unique painting style based on the ancient Sumi-e tradition, and strove to emanate the beauty he captured in his flowers.

While at the Art Students League, she was delighted to discover that the instructor for her Watercolor class happened to be Mario Cooper himself, and she realized her great good fortune to be able to continue her education under his personal direction. Mario Cooper at the time served as the President of the American Watercolor Society for 26 years.

Ginny pursued her career over the next several years in administration for a not-for-profit spiritual organization but never gave up her yearning to paint. During that time, she studied Pastels and Watercors at the Woodstock School of Art in Upstate New York.

In 2003 Ginny moved to Nevada and resumed her art career teaching mentally and physically challenged children through the VSAarts of Nevada, a not-for-profit organization which brings the arts to at-risk or disadvantaged children and adults. Through her work with VSA she also gave adult workshops in Watecolor and Pastel, and in 2005 traveled to Ely, Nevada where she was Artist in Residence for a week-long art program for students from grades 1 to 8. Here in California, she is currently working as an art instructor with Youth in Arts in Marin County, a sister organization to VSAarts, bringing the arts to local elementary school children.

She has won several awards for her pastels and watercolors both while in college and during her art career in Nevada and California. She was one of the top ten winners of the "Biggests Little Art Show" in Nevada in 2004. In Modesto, CA, where she servd as the Central California Art Association gallery director, she also won awards including Second Place Winner for her figurative work in Pastels.

In addition to her affiliation with VSA, Ginny teaches ongoing private pastel classes in Santa Rosa. She also teaches pastel classes for Adult Education in Santa Rosa and she teaches both Watercolors and Pastels in Petaluma Community Education.

Ginny is a member of the Petaluma Arts Council, the Petaluma Arts Association and the Sebastapol Center for the Arts and exhibits her work at various local venues.
